A conversation about sex is not always easy to touch on—even mundane things from knowing how your vagina looks to what pleasures you.

"A lot of people shy away from talking about sex. They use euphemisms or knowing glances to refer to certain body parts, acts or issues. This leaves much unsaid, which contributes to the outdated idea that sex is embarrassing," she says.

Catriona shares 7 surprising facts about sex

1. The penis and vagina account for less than 10% of erogenous zones.

2. The typical female orgasm lasts around 20 seconds, three times longer than the average male orgasm.

3. Almost 30% of females have never taken a good look at their genitals.

4. Vibrators were first developed in 1869 as a medical device to reduce 'hysteria' in women. (Female hysteria was once a common medical diagnosis and covered many symptoms, including anxiety, fainting, nervousness, sexual desire, insomnia, fluid retention, irritability, and loss of appetite.)

5. 50-60% of cisgender women report faking orgasm.

6. A whopping 81% of cisgender women won't reach orgasm during sexual intercourse with a male partner, but the rate is fifty to sixty percent with a female partner.

 7. Same-sex couples report far higher levels of sexual satisfaction because they communicate more openly about sex and have fewer expectations around performance.
