  • This woman was once left at the altar in 2017; her fiancé ran away with his pregnant mistress.
  • Her younger sister is set to tie the knot soon, so she decided to help her out by paying for her dream dress.
  • However, she quickly changed her mind when her sister made an insensitive joke about her 2017 trauma.

Having an older sister is a God-sent gift that just makes life easier. They are like the deputy parent or mother who isn't too strict but spoils you rotten and shows up for you when in need. As such, this bride-to-be had her sister promise to help her buy her dream wedding dress when she couldn't afford it. However, this promise was quickly broken during a family dinner when the younger sister made an insensitive joke about the older sister being left at the altar.

Taking to Reddit, the older sister began telling users that in 2017, she was set to walk down the aisle; however, her then fiancé abandoned her and ran away with his pregnant mistress. "That image, those details are forever engraved on my mind, and I'll never forget how I felt that day. This was truly a turning point in my life."

She adds that her family has always been there for her, and she kept them close. Her younger sister is engaged, and her wedding will be in a few months, but she is struggling with money, so she decided to help her and her fiancé pay for the wedding dress.

"This allowed her to buy her dream wedding gown that cost $7 000 (R136 018). It's a lot for a dress, but she literally cried because she wanted it." A few days after agreeing to help buy the wedding dress, they had a family dinner at her parent's home with aunts and cousins. One of her aunts proceeded to ask the younger sister about her wedding, to which she responded by saying that everything was going according to plan but then made the mistake of joking about her older sister's 2017 experience. "She casually let out a laugh and said, 'Let's just hope he won't run away with a pregnant mistress or something on our wedding day'."

The older sister says she was blown away completely, "She laughed, and my aunt laughed too, as if this was a joke. She was basically mocking what happened to me with my wedding. It happened so fast that I got up and started screaming at her, calling her an idiot, but my parents asked me to take it easy." The younger sister then said it was a joke, and she didn't think her older sister would react so intensely. "My aunt remained seated, and my cousin asked me to calm down and drink some water, but I grabbed my stuff and told my sister she was getting zero dollars for her dream wedding dress and walked out."

She says as she was walking out, she heard a louder commotion, and her father followed her to tell her she was too harsh and that this was just her dark humour. "They said she's been crying after I decided to back out of helping her and said I'd ruin her wedding. They want me to reconsider my decision since it might damage my relationship with my sister, but I refused." Users of the platform shared their opinions mostly in support of the older sister, saying, "Seriously, your sister needs to rethink her priorities if she's struggling with money and picking a $7000 dress. It doesn't matter if someone is paying for it." Another added, "She was crying over a dress. She should have been crying with remorse for how she hurt you.".
