  • The British guest had been trying for a baby for a long time and fell pregnant while considering adoption.
  • Excited about her fortune, she wanted to share the news with her friends in person.
  • The friends live far a part and getting together is a rare occasion, so when her friends were gathered at another friends wedding, the guest shared her news.
  • The bride felt betrayed and the friendship has ended.

Taking to Reddit anonymously, the guest shares that she didn't find the revealation to be unacceptable.

The woman begins the story by saying, “My husband and I have been trying for a baby for over 5 years. When we went to a fertility doctor, we were told my husband had a low sperm count. A few months later I was diagnosed with endometriosis, making our chances of natural conception incredibly low.”

Just as the woman and her husband were looking into and adoption she found out she was pregnant. He best friend’s wedding was two months after she found out about the pregnancy.

“We have a big group of friends and we all live pretty far away from each other as well, we all went to university in different places and moved there. It’s very rare we’re all together and the news of my long awaited pregnancy was one I wanted to share in person and not over the phone. I didn’t make a massive announcement, I simply just told people as I saw them.”

Because a lot of people knew the couple was struggling, the news drew a bit of attention. “My best friend dragged me away towards the end of the night and said she was furious with me for making this night all about me. I was apologetic but explained my reasoning and expected her to be happy for me. She was anything but and has made absolutely no effort with me since.”

Reddit users took no time to let the woman know that although they understand her reasoning, high jacking someone’s wedding is off the table, with one saying, “I understand your reasoning, and I don't think you meant any harm, but it's pretty standard weddiquette: you don't reveal big news at a wedding. An apology is in order.”

Another added, “You clearly knew your pregnancy announcement was a huge thing if you wanted to tell everyone in person and have been waiting as long as you have to be able to conceive. Weddings and pregnancies are both high on the life achievement board. You should have just had your own party instead of hijacking someone else’s.”

We asked local women to share their unwritten rules for attending weddings:

Never wear white, under no circumstance. Be it a dress or a two-piece or jumpsuit. DO NOT WEAR WHITE.
Bianca
You should never make an impromptu speech on the wedding day. Speeches are meant for those on the program.
Lolo
At the wedding after party, do not get drunk.
Tive
Keep any major announcements such as engagements etc, for after the wedding please.

You need to have your phone on silent and please don’t post pictures of my wedding online before I do. There’s a reason I hired a professional photographer.
