  • A groom decided to shove his bride's face in cake on their wedding day.
  • Now, she wants a divorce.
  • The bride asked for advice on Slate about her next move after her family said she shouldn't leave her new husband.

We have been seeing a lot of videos circulating the internet where grooms do questionable things on the day of their weddings. In their defence, these grooms have claimed that their behaviour is nothing but fun and games. Others are convinced that these behaviours are signs of the worst to come in the marriage.

They have also said these are signs of a narcissistic, controlling man who only reconsiders his behaviour when others point it out, other than a partner.

A woman took to Slate's Dear Prudence advice column to detail what happened that led to her wanting to end her marriage a day after saying 'I do'.

"I got married just before Christmas, and I'm hoping to be divorced or annulled by the end of January. I never cared about getting married, but I wasn't opposed to it. So, when my boyfriend proposed in 2020, we decided to go for it. We each took on about half the responsibility for organising the wedding, but I think I was pretty reasonable about compromise when he really wanted." While planning the wedding, the bride made a rule that her husband-to-be not rub cake on her face at the reception.

The groom agreed to the 'rule'; however, he left out the part where he still planned to have cake on his bride's face. "Instead, he grabbed me by the back of the head and shoved my head down into it. It was planned since the cake was destroyed, and he had a bunch of cupcakes as a backup." This behaviour led to the newlywed bride wanting to end the marriage. "Next day, I told him we were done. The thing is that over the holidays, everyone has gotten together to tell me I should give him a second chance. That I am overreacting, that I love him, he loves me, and that means not giving up at the first hurdle."

The bride also shared that his behaviour triggered her due to an accident she was in years before. "I am very claustrophobic after a car accident years ago, and I absolutely panicked at being shoved into a cake and held there. In response to the bride, Prudence said that the bride should focus on what she wants and not what everyone is telling her to do. "You only have to listen to yourself. I think what he did was a red flag about not respecting you and your wishes - to say nothing of the physical aggression - but even if it wasn't, the fact that you really didn't like it is enough."
