  • A couple from Texas in the US waited until marriage to share their first kiss.
  • They made the decision so they could connect emotionally and spiritually before being physical.
  • When tempted, they would do outdoor activities, spend time with friends, pray or share forehead and cheek kisses.

In the Christian religion, couples in relationships are encouraged to hold off on intimacy until they are married and are under the covenant of God. In today's society, there are some couples who have overlooked this as there's so much pressure among their peers to experience intimacy and mostly talk about the feeling, the right way to do it and how to improve on it. On the other hand, other couples decide to honour God by following this rule, and this Texas couple decided to have no intimacy at all, including kissing until they got married.

Keylin Akuchie and her now husband Eleazer first met at the Christ For Nations Institute in 2019. Keylin shared that she had a crush on him; however, Eleazer took three years to ask her out on a date. After the date went great, the pair decided to begin their relationship, and after a year of dating, they got engaged. Due to their shared religious values, the couple also decided to create physical boundaries when they began their relationship. "I had never kissed anyone before - I wanted the first person I kissed to be the one I married," Eleazer said.

Eleazer added that the reason they made the decision was because they wanted to get to know each other and connect emotionally and spiritually before becoming physical. Although this was a great decision for each other, letting those in their circle know came with challenges, as some people were supportive and agreed with the decision. While others questioned it. "I think everyone thought our choice was weird, and they would ask, 'What if we're bad kissers?'" Their decision, of course, came with temptations, and the couple found alternative ways to deal with them.

They would either spend time with their friends, do outdoor activities or pray to distract themselves. They also implemented other ways to get intimate without being completely physical; this included forehead and cheek kisses, holding hands and hugging. "Waiting meant a lot to me because it's not something that is bad; it's just something I wanted. There are times I wanted to kiss her but more for her than me," Eleazer said.

After all the physical sacrifices they made during their relationship for two years, their wedding finally came in June, and they shared that the moment was nerve-racking as so many people would watch them kiss for the first time. Fortunately, all went well, and now they get to be intimate with each other every day and all day. "Now we get to enjoy the physical aspects of marriage, and it's even more special to have waited. Physical intimacy can be like a band-aid covering up issues, but not having that encouraged us to mature emotionally towards each other," they both added.
