  • A young couple in their twenties tied the knot in Pretoria at the Summit Grill and Skybar in Menlyn
  • The non-traditional bride had her younger brother as the man of honour.
  • The couple served pizza for dinner and Kaula Dom Pedros for dessert

Meet 26-year-old Bianca Vogel and 27-year-old Armand Van der Westhuizen who recently tied the knot. Bianca and Armand met in Potchefstroom at a local club called Club MVG in April 2018. Bianca used to work at the club when they met and Armand worked at Bourbon Street, another club a few shops from hers.

“I was having drinks with friends at Club MVG and Armand was friends with one of the girls on the table. He joined us and we started talking, which led us to become friends,” Bianca says.

Armand then moved to Pretoria for work but still did weekend shifts at Bourbons. In December 2019 Armand told Bianca that he was coming to Potchefstroom to work at the club for New Year’s Eve.

“He passed by for a visit on December, 28, and he never left. He moved back to Potch in 2019 and we’ve been together since,” she adds.

The couple dated for four years before tying the knot. Before they started dating, they shared everything with each other including their pasts, skeletons in the closet, fears, expectations from a partner, and their dreams.

They both believe that if you can’t accept someone's past, you don’t deserve their future.

In December 2020, Armand proposed to Bianca after planning the proposal with her mother.

Explaining what happened on the day of her proposal, Bianca says, “My mom told me that she wants all our close friends and family to do a Christmas dinner together before we go visit Armand’s parents. We had dinner and when they took out the dessert everyone started acting weird. Everyone got a bowl of dessert except me. When I asked where mine was, Armand picked it up and ran with my ice cream. When I caught up with him, he stopped, smiled at me, and got down on one knee.”

Bianca was suspicious on the day of the proposal because she wasn’t allowed to do any work that would stain her nails after getting them done.

“My mom, grandmother, and friends made sure my nails, hair, makeup, and clothes were perfect. When he popped the question everything made sense. I was ecstatic, over the moon and, all teary-eyed,” she adds.

The couple waited for the perfect time and place to get married. They chose Summit Grill and Skybar in Menlyn as the venue after they went out for drinks and Armand suggested it.

“I wanted a starry night and a celestial theme. My gran made gold stars for décor and my friends got fairy lights,” Bianca shares.

She wore a timeless bridal dress that was meant to be an evening gown and her bridesmaids wore black dresses from SHEIN. One of the bridesmaids was eight months pregnant which is what led to the bride’s decision for all her bridesmaids to wear black. Bianca’s brother was her man of honour and wore a simple suit.

Both the wedding ceremony and reception took place at the Pretoria restaurant.

“We wanted to be relaxed and out of the ordinary. I mean we had pizza for dinner and Kalua Dom Pedros for dessert,” she adds.

The couple hope to grow and develop together in the coming years. They want to build their dream life together and to grow closer.

“We want our relationship and marriage to grow stronger over the years and hopefully be blessed and married for 40, 60 plus years,” she adds.
