  • Cannabis is becoming popular in the wedding industry.
  • Caterers and couples have been infusing the ingredient into their wedding meals.
  • This couple won a cannabis-infused wedding package worth R7 million.

Cannabis-infused products have been trending in the wedding space since last year. However, at some weddings, guests were not aware. At one wedding, a grandmother ingested one of these products and had to be hospitalised, only for the doctors to find she had consumed cannabis-infused food.

US Navy veteran Nile Hunt and fiancé Danielle Geralds entered a competition last March to stand a chance at winning a wedding package that came with a free marriage license. The weed enthusiasts will marry outside the Greenhouse of Walled Lake in October with an intimate guest list of 50 people. The package is worth $400 000 (more than R7 million).

The wedding package will also include the venue, a wedding planner, cannabis-infused cuisine, cocktails, entertainment and a minister to officiate the wedding. Instead of throwing rice at the end of the ceremony, marijuana leaves will be thrown. "This is a wonderful and incredibly deserving couple, and I could not be happier for them. It was a difficult decision, and I wish we could have awarded an all-expenses paid wedding to all entrants," Greenhouse owner Jerry Millen said.
