A wedding is a time when two families are joined and celebrate the love that two people share. However, this is not always the energy. Sometimes family members don't approve of a chosen partner, especially when it comes to sexuality. One woman has shared her decision to uninvite her fiancé's father because of a comment he made, which led to the entire family not wanting to attend. The fiancé is now upset, and the woman feels bad about her decision.

Taking to Reddit, the woman (named Jeana) wanted to know if her decision was a good one. She started by saying that she would soon marry her fiancé Zoë. The couple and their family members were having an engagement dinner where a toast was made to celebrate the new beginnings. "Everyone happily clinked drinks except Zoë's father. He just sat there with arms crossed, staring daggers at me." Jeana said she tried to look at her fiancé, but she was too busy talking to her brother.

A couple of minutes later, Jeana overheard a conversation where an argument broke out. "I heard my mother say, 'Excuse me?' Then I heard Zoë's father say, 'It just isn't natural'. I asked what was going on, and the whole end of the table went silent." She adds that her fiancé's father said he was happy for them but didn't like that Jeana was a girl. "I asked him what he meant by that, and he told me our whole engagement was a joke. He actually started to look around for some type of backup."

Jeana laughed and told him that he should not come to the wedding if he felt that way, and Zoë's father didn't take that very well. "He got very upset and told me I couldn't tell him what to do, and he was going to come anyways. I put my foot down and said, 'No, you're not'. For years I had to sit and listen to him talk down on me and our relationship, but this time I wasn't letting it happen." She says that now she regrets that decision because, after the party, her fiancé's mother said her entire family isn't attending the wedding if her husband isn't allowed to come. Her fiancé is now upset and has been crying.

Users of the platform shared their opinion, with some saying that although the decision was great, it should've been made by both partners, not just one. One said, "You don't unilaterally decide something for both of you as a couple. That's not cool, no matter how much her father deserved it." Another added that they wouldn't want someone's energy who doesn't support them. "I wouldn't want someone like that anywhere, especially when drinking is involved."
