  • Brides love bringing their family and friends to assist in choosing a wedding dress.
  • However, this mother-in-law disapproved of every dress the bride chose.
  • The disagreement resulted in a 'red flag' family dispute.

When a woman is set to get married, she goes through a process of planning her wedding day so it can be as perfect as she imagines. With that comes other elements that make this day special, including the most important part, which is her wedding gown. While going through the search to find the perfect dress, she will invite a couple of people whose opinions she deems important. These people include her mother, best friend, sister and sometimes her mother-in-law.

This bride took to Reddit to vent about her mother-in-law, who made wedding dress shopping so challenging she decided her future in-law no longer gets to have an opinion about it. "I'm getting married next year to my fiancé, Jack. His mother is excited for the wedding and has been very involved." She continues to add the woman insisted on tagging along.

She says she didn't have a problem until she began to make the whole experience uncomfortable. "She kept criticising every dress I tried on and kept saying things like, 'No, that's not for US,' 'WE can do better'. I was getting irritated but kept it inside to not cause any drama." At some point, the bride-to-be tried on a dress that she immediately fell in love with and told the saleswoman that it was the one she wanted, but her future mother-in-law was not in the same boat.

"My future mother-in-law did not agree and was like, 'Are you kidding? I don't want that one; she's not pretty'. I tried to remain as polite as possible and told her that although I was thankful she volunteered to come with me, it was still my future wedding dress and, therefore, my choice. I was gonna choose that one whether she liked the dress or not." She says her mother-in-law started crying and told the bride she was being ungrateful and called her selfish. She also left the bridal shop and took a taxi home.

When the bride got home and told her fiancé what happened, he took his mother's side and said she should've been more understanding as he was her only kid. Users of the platform took to the comment section to advise the bride-to-be, with one saying, "This is your red flag. Your fiancé is always going to take his mommy's side. You have to decide if that's the battle you want to fight the rest of your life." Another added that this isn't a moment for the mother, saying, "Your mother-in-law's only chance to 'live this' was her own wedding, regardless of whether or not she had one."
