Airbnb vs aparthotels: The Catalyst wins on quality, convenience and clinical consistency

There was a time quite recently when Airbnb was the darling of urban accommodation. But then, all of a sudden, it wasn’t.

Still, South Africa still has thousands of private properties to rent on the platform, mostly centred around its bigger cities. And there are still many Airbnb gems to be found both here and abroad.

But to cater for those tired of playing Airbnb roulette after trawling through dozens of reviews and carefully edited photographs, hotel groups have created a hybrid product under the clumsy portmanteau "aparthotel".
