The Royal Caribbean's Ultimate World Cruise has become the latest internet sensation on TikTok, attracting millions as voyagers embark on the nine-month journey spanning more than 60 countries.

Dubbed the Royal Caribbean's Ultimate World Cruise, the voyage kicked off on 10 December 2023, and is set to go around the globe until 10 September 2024.

"The adventure begins and ends in Miami, Florida, visiting all seven continents, 65 countries, more than 150 ports of call, and 11 World Wonders.

More than 40 of the ports are either rarely available on our other itineraries or brand new to Royal Caribbean," according to the Royal Caribbean Website.

With the promise of 274 nights of exploration and bonding with like-minded travellers across all seven continents, the cruise offers four segments, allowing people to book the segment of their choice or the entire nine-month experience.

The four legs of the cruise include the Ultimate Americas Cruise (10 December-11 February), Ultimate Asia Pacific Cruise (11 February-9 May 2024), Ultimate Middle East and Med Cruise (9 May-10 July 2024), and the Ultimate Europe and beyond Cruise (10 July–10 September 2024).

Prices range from R1.1 million per person for the cheapest option to R2.2 million per person, which is the most expensive.

"No matter which stateroom you choose, your fare includes Ultimate World Cruise complimentary amenities, like business class airfare, pre-cruise hotel and gala, Deluxe Beverage Package, gratuities, VOOM internet package, wash and fold laundry service, and more," the company said.

#CruiseTok, the latest TikTok craze

The cruise has received a lot of attention on social media, having amassed over 247.9 million views on TikTok.

It inspired interest in the hashtag #CruiseTok, while the hashtag #WorldCruise has received 179.8 million views on the same platform.

Those on the ship share regular updates, ranging from room tours, views of the ocean, what they eat in a day, and more.

What's currently trending is the Drake Passage along the route to Antarctica, which is a rough and wavey body of water connecting the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.

As anticipation for potential drama on the ship builds, viewers are curious about how the people on the ship can afford the voyage.

One user on TikTok, @angielinderman, had been planning the trip for more than a year and answered the question.

@angielinderman Ultimate World Cruise Q&A or really FAQ since i dont know how to do a Q&A on here. Help! "I have been planning this for a year-and-a-half. A lot of people have been planning it for much longer than that.

"I've lost both my parents, so I had some life insurance money that came to me – it seemed like the most logical way to do it," she said.

Linderman, who lost her parents to cancer, and is at risk of getting breast and ovarian cancer, explained that, with the health risks she's facing, there's no way she would want to wait until retirement to do this.

Curious viewers on TikTok are eager to find out if there will be deaths on the ship, pregnancies, and whether people are getting sick of eating cruise food for three weeks, among other things.
