Jo Wessels comes from Bloemfontein.

My only anecdote about Bloemfontein is that one of my best friends, who hails from there, once said that Bloemfontein is so flat you can see a dog run away from you for three days.

You'd think it was a strange place for the 7th Best Sommelier in the World to come from. But Kevin Arnold (formerly of Waterford), Roelof Lotriet (Delheim), and the late Duimpie Bayley (Distell when it was still the Stellenbosch Farmers Winery, a South African wine legend) all came from Bloem, and they all studied at St Andrew's, Jo tells me.
