This comes in the wake of an attack on a US tourist at Nyanga bus terminus on Friday 3 November. The tourist was shot and injured before the suspects fled with his belongings.
The 55-year-old victim, Walter Fischel from Connecticut, was on his way to his accommodation in Simon's Town via Nyanga when the incident occurred.
He reportedly drove to Nyanga Police Station for help.
Nyanga CPF secretary Dumisani Qwebe said they need tighter security to protect not only the local community, but everyone entering the area. He stated that was the second attack on a tourist within a year.
“The first incident occurred during the time of the taxi strike in August where a British tourist was gunned down near the Nyanga terminus.
“Now the US tourist was shot and injured by unknown people. However, he managed to drive to Nyanga Police Station where he got help,” said Qwebe.

He stated the community has the responsibility to ensure a crime-free zone by reporting criminality to the police. He appealed to the officers to leave no stone unturned in pursuit of justice for the victim.
Provincial police spokesperson Capt FC van Wyk said the tourist was robbed of his personal belongings, documents and clothing.
“A case of attempted murder and robbery with a firearm was registered at Mowbray (he was transferred to a medical facility which falls under Mowbray Police Precinct), and will be transferred to Nyanga for further investigation. No arrest as yet, the investigation continues. Further investigation will be by the Provincial Detectives Serious and Violent Crimes,” he said.
