Towards the end of 2023 Stanford Animal Welfare Service (SAWS) realised it urgently needed a cattery. It considered various offers and alternatives.

Bert du Toit, owner of Stanford Security Service (SSS), learnt about this and offered SAWS available space at the SSS premises.

“It was a gift from heaven,” said Wendy Hanson, SAWS spokesperson. The setting is ideal. It is situated barely a kilometre outside Stanford. The trees canopy where the cats now reside gives shade and tranquillity.

“Bert has been exceptionally kind. We were free to choose the location of the cattery and he did not give us any limitation on space.”

An anonymous donor made it possible for SAWS to erect three Wendy houses for cats. Presently 15 can be put up. The project is ongoing.

The setting of the new cattery is ideal. It is situated barely a kilometre outside Stanford. The trees canopy where the cats now reside and give shade and tranquillity.

“We cannot thank Bert enough for his generosity. We also owe Stanhaven resident Ian Trotter many thanks. Ian came on board the day the idea of a cattery became a reality. He designed the cat accommodation and appointed a builder, Wiaan Gertse. He did excellent work too. Both men’s desire for precision resulted in a model cattery.

Although the cats are happy there, they do need to be re-homed.
