With fewer than four months until one of the world’s largest football tournaments, the Dana Cup, begins in Germany, soccer star Luvuyo Jako (15) of Oceanview, Jeffreys Bay, hopes to raise enough money to participate in the thrilling football experience.
Luvuyo’s mother, Elizabeth, said her son initially began playing soccer at five-years-old with friends from his neighbourhood.
She said that since then his soccer skills have continued to improve, and he is now a very good soccer player.
When they received confirmation in December 2023 that Jako had been selected to represent KeepActive Sports Development in the Dana Cup from July 22 to 27, Elizabeth said she was very happy.
To participate in and attend the Dana Cup, he needs approximately R60 000 to cover transportation, food, and accommodation during his stay in Germany.
“We have only received a donation of R1 200 thus far. We do not have any other funds,” said Elizabeth.
Jako said he has always loved playing soccer, and recently joined the Mighty Blues Soccer Club in Oceanview.
In addition, he regularly plays soccer for his school, Jeffreys Bay Academy.
Jako said that when he received confirmation that he had been selected for the Dana Cup he was excited and could not believe it at first.
“I really want to go to Denmark, but we need financial assistance,” he said.
