The Kouga 8-Ball Pool Referee Course, hosted by the South African Pool Referees Association (SAPRA), concluded on a high note this past weekend, marking a significant milestone in the local pool community’s efforts to uphold standards of fair play and sportsmanship.

Hosted at Jolly Dolphin, the event brought together a diverse group of enthusiasts, players, and aspiring referees, all eager to deepen their understanding of the game.

Throughout the intensive course, attendees immersed themselves in the nuances of eight-ball pool officiating, guided by experienced referees and industry experts.

From dissecting complex rule scenarios, to refining judgment calls, participants honed their skills and gained invaluable insights into maintaining the integrity of the game.

“We are immensely grateful to everyone who joined us for this enriching experience,” said Lindsay Draghoender, lead organiser of the Kouga 8-Ball Pool Referee Course.

“Your enthusiasm and commitment to advancing the standards of pool officiating are truly commendable.”

Reflecting on their experience, participants lauded the course for its practicality, and relevance to their roles as referees and players alike.

“Attending this course has been a game-changer for me,” shared Maxine Brent. “I now feel equipped with the knowledge and confidence to officiate at matches with professionalism and accuracy.”

She will represent the ladies’ nationals as a referee between April 12 and 19.

Looking ahead, organisers encourage continued engagement and participation in initiatives aimed at furthering the growth and development of pool officiating in Kouga.

With the unwavering support of its members, the local pool scene is poised for even greater achievements in the future.

For those unable to attend this year’s course, organisers assure future opportunities will arise to be involved and make a positive impact on the sport.
