At least two local charities, the JBay Animal Rescue Sanctuary and The Ladies’ Lighthouse, received large donations from Jeffreys Bay-based business, Chadon Aluminium, which has been a much-needed boost ahead of the new year.
Manager of JBay Animal Rescue Sanctuary, Cindy Muller, said that their non-profit organisation currently has 10 kittens, nine adult cats, seven puppies, and 14 adult dogs at their premises located in Ocean View, Jeffreys Bay.
In addition to providing a safe place for the many animals that have been abandoned, she said that they also sterilise animals as part of their outreach programme in Loerie, Kareedouw, and Thornhill, each month.
Since they have to feed the animals at the sanctuary, and the animals they interact with during their outreaches, Muller said that they can never have enough dog and cat food.
“We spend between R48 000 to R52 000 on dog and cat food a month, which goes towards feeding our kennel dogs and doing outreach in Loerie, Kareedouw and Thornhill each month as well,” said Muller.
She said that it has been hard to keep up with their need for dog and cat food, especially since there are so many animals that are starving in the different areas where they do their outreaches.
Thankfully, on January 25 they received a large amount of dog and cat food from Chadon Aluminium, which will help them greatly.
“We will be able to feed a lot more hungry dogs and cats this coming month. We are so thankful to everyone from Chadon Aluminium,” said Muller.
In addition to the donation made to the sanctuary, Chadon Aluminium also made a monetary donation to The Ladies’ Lighthouse, an NPO based in Jeffreys Bay that helps single mothers and their children.
Carla Smit, founder of The Ladies’ Lighthouse, said that they currently help 160 children, 74 single mothers and five elderly women with various expenses such as food, rent, pre-paid electricity, medical bills, and school stationery, among other expenses.
She said the first Saturday of each month they hand out food to the children and women; however, since they had not received any food donations during the week leading up to the handover on February 3, their cupboards were bare and they had no food in stock for the weekly handover.
Smit said that they always pray for assistance for the mothers and children that need help and believe that everyone can make a difference in their lives.
To her surprise, on January 30, she received a cash donation from Chadon Aluminium which enabled her to buy a large quantity of groceries for the women and children in need.
With his co-director at Chadon Aluminium, Charles Hayes, Donre Hayes said that they were able to donate dog and cat food to JBay Animal Rescue Sanctuary and a large amount of money to support families from the Ladies’ Lighthouse.
“We feel very blessed to be in this position to give back to the community,” said Donre.
He said that as directors of the company, they wanted to thank all their clients for their support and help they have received to grow their company over the years.
“We at Chadon Aluminium will always give the best products and services,” said Donre.
