A Miss Golden Heart South African finalist, Alupheli Mxotwa (12), from Misty Mount in Libode, handed over clothes to a family from Mgwenyane locality, whose rondavel burned last week.

Other families also benefited from her kindness.

“After I heard about what happened to this family, I decided to do something as part of my charity for Mgwenyane residents. I collected clothes from anyone willing to help me. I am happy that I managed to do something for this family even though I am still young,” said Mxotwa.

She confirmed that she would continue with modelling when she is older but wants to be a doctor one day. The chief of the area, Sizwe Mgcotyelwa, said they were astounded to see such a young person taking care of the community. He said that when this rondavel caught fire, it was after load shedding.

“When the electricity came back, they did not know what happened because they were told by a neighbour that there was smoking coming from the rondavel. All their belongings were destroyed by fire. After I saw what happened, I wrote a request from our WhatsApp group, asking anyone who can assist to do so,” said Mgcotyelwa.

He said the message reached Alupheli, and she did not fold her arms but tried to help. Mgcotyelwa said that they were still shocked about her good work.

Mgcotyelwa added that even though the family received clothes, they were still asking for a Good Samaritan to assist with roofing material so that this family could use their rondavel again. Talking about the incident, the owner of the rondavel, Nowethu Mthi (52), said she was still speechless because Mxotwa was still so young to do this.

“She helped because it was hard for me since most of our clothes burnt. I did not report the matter to Eskom,” she said.
