Mngazana Development Centre founder, Nyameko Xamba, of Gomolo locality in Port St Johns, is on a mission to open a Computer Centre and Library in Port St Johns.

Xamba said his aim is to help young children start using computers at an early stage, and the library will assist Grade 12 learners to do their research.

He said that this will also boost the learners’ pass rate because it will be easy for them to get more knowledge.

“What I have noticed is that some of the learners are dropping out of school because there is nothing interesting in our society,” said Xamba.

He added that no one is motivating them, and that is why he decided to take this decision, saying that he would build a relationship with parents so that they could work together.

Jojweni Mkaba (55), a Gomolo community member, said they are in deep rural areas where there are no resources at all, and their children drop out of school because of the long distances they travel to school.

“It is very hard because even if the person wants to study computers they must go to Mthatha because there is nothing in our area,” said Mkaba. “Some use alcohol because they have nothing to do. We are supporting these initiatives because they can change the lives of our children for the better.”

Mkaba added that the community is happy when there are people like Xamba bringing services to the people, an initiative so that the area of Port St Johns can grow.
