Walter Sisulu University Mechanical Engineering student, Chumasande Somazembe, is set to compete in the Miss Multiverse Pageant to be held in the Dominican Republic in October.
The Dimbaza-born beauty will represent South Africa against a multitude of other contestants from around the world.
“I’m nervous, but excited at the same time, because I know I will do myself proud, hopefully the nation as well,” said Somazembe.
Somazembe honed her modelling talent in her hometown of Dimbaza in Qonce, where she completed her schooling at Kuyasa Secondary School.
In 2022 she was crowned Miss Universities South Africa, adding to her multiple wins in the world of pageantry. She has also competed and won first place in Miss Hot Legs South Africa, a competition which empowers ambitious young women through social impact.
“One thing I want people to know is that, to achieve your goals or dreams, you must live them. Believing in yourself is having a beautiful and healthy introspection with your inner self. Always remember the mind is the powerhouse, which must be positive and healthy,” said Somazembe.
Following her multiple successes in pageantry, Somazembe sought to give back to her community by opening a soup kitchen for the less fortunate.
Her other initiatives include giving training to young aspiring models, which she says helps build their confidence and gets them off the streets by giving them something positive to spend their time on. She currently has a TikTok account where she showcases her modelling trainees, and has amassed over three million views on the platform.
