Four people were killed and three others injured early this morning in another shooting incident in KwaZakhele.

This comes after eight people were killed and three injured in the same area just two weeks ago in Maqanda Street.

Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Nomthetheleli Mene has now made a clarion call to the communities of KwaZakhele and New Brighton to join hands with the police and stop the killing of people in their communities.

This strong call for action emanates from the death of four people and the injuries to three others during the early hours of this morning, Sunday, 12 February at a house in Nomjila Street in KwaZakhele.

According to police information, at about 00:45, a patrolling police vehicle was stopped by a woman who alleged that she and other people were shot at by unknown men at the mentioned address.

"It is further alleged that approximately eleven people (six women and five men) were drinking and enjoying themselves at the house when three unknown men entered and started shooting," said Colonel Priscilla Naidu, police spokesperson.

Four people (three women and a man) were fatally injured while three people (two men and a woman) were also injured in the shooting. Four people (two men and two women) escaped unhurt.

"The owner of the house, aged 28 years old, died in the incident.

"The motive for the shooting and suspects is unknown at this stage. The next of kin of the deceased are still being traced and verified. They are between the ages of 20-25 years old."

The Provincial Organised Crime Investigation in Gqeberha are investigating a case of murder (x4 counts) and attempted murder (x7 counts). Anyone who can assist in tracing the suspects is asked to contact Col Willie Mayi on 082 697 5914 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or the nearest police station. All information is confidential, and callers may remain anonymous.

Mene is urging the communities to come forward and expose those responsible for this carnage.

"On 29 January 2023, eleven people became victims of a deadly shooting in Maqanda Street in KwaZakhele, leaving eight people dead and three injured. Two weeks later, another four people were found dead and several others injured in the same community. We cannot allow criminals to reign freely in our neighbourhoods, instilling fear in our citizens.

"Someone, somewhere knows something about these callous attacks and we are appealing to you to help us find these dangerous criminals and remove them from society," urged Mene.
