- Jose Williams went from being a drug addict and prisoner, to being an author and foster father.
- His latest work is about ADHD, a condition his foster daughter suffers from.
- Williams needs help getting his book published.
When Jose Williams was heavily addicted to drugs, he never imagined his life would ever turn out the way it has.
“I was a serious drug addict, and was always in and out of prison as a result. It was a hopeless situation, but fortunately I was able to get out of that lifestyle before it swallowed me up,” said Williams.
After deciding to turn his life around, the 41-year-old decided to become a parent to a foster child.
Williams is the only man in a household of eight people, including his mother who is the head of the home, and his eldest teenage daughter.
Even when the young dad was still battling with addiction, he always prioritised being a father. A few years ago, he went to court to fight for full custody of his now 15-year-old daughter.
“I didn’t want to just see my daughter occasionally, I wanted to see her every day; make sure she has the care she needs.”
Although Williams has been struggling with getting suitable employment opportunities, he is not letting that discourage him. Instead, he has decided to tap into his new-found love of writing and tell the story of his youngest daughter.
“I’ve written and completed a book titled, You, Me and ADHD, basically an ode to my daughter who has the condition. I won’t reveal too much, but I would like to appeal to potential sponsors to help me get this book on the shelves,” pleaded Williams.
Williams’ manuscript is already with a publisher who has published some of his work before.
