Local pageant organisation, Face of the Bay, in collaboration with the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, recently hosted a high tea event at City Hall in Gqeberha to empower 150 women in the metro to make a difference in their community.
Newly-launched, Face of the Bay, was founded by Candice Heynes, title holder of Mrs PE for 2017 and top 100 in Mrs South Africa in 2020.
Heynes initially established Face of the Bay to make a difference in the community by changing the way pageants operate, and provide more transparency and consistency.
As part of the launch of Face of the Bay, Heynes, with the municipality, hosted a high tea event to uplift and empower women to move out of their comfort zones and stand tall by realising their true worth.
“The women of Gqeberha came together with so much enthusiasm, and created an atmosphere of vibrancy,” said Heynes.
She said that the pageant gives women in the community an opportunity to establish their own small businesses and encourages them to be self-sufficient and give back to charity.
“Anyone can wear a sash and crown, but a woman of worth uses the Face of the Bay and the power of the sash to change the world,” said Heynes.
“It’s not the size of the crown or a beauty pageant; however, it’s the passion inside you that determines your worth in making a difference.”
She said that the pageant, in collaboration with the municipality and many other sponsors who contributed to the success of the event, strives to make a difference in the lives of others, especially those from poverty-stricken areas in the Metro.
Heynes said that some of the phenomenal guest speakers at the event included the founder of Sophisticate Models, Gail Brown, Dr Nomangesi Ngcakani, and fashion designer Carlos Frits who designed Heynes’ dress for the event.
The honourable guest on the day was executive mayor, Gary van Niekerk.
Heynes said that the highlight of the event was the launch of Face of the Bay, but they were appreciative of the magnificent prize, worth R10 000, sponsored by Muneeb Wassin from Art and Design and handed over to Victory Outreach Drug Recovery Centre based in West End, Bethelsdorp.
She said that the charity of choice was chosen by the guests.
Heynes further thanked Shutterbug Creations for capturing their most precious moments at the event.
“The power of women was witnessed at this event and will be an everlasting glorious experience talked about in the Bay,” said Heynes.
