An innocent bystander has been killed during a shootout in Bethelsdorp at the weekend.
On Sunday evening at approximately 20:00, 25-year-old Yolanda Tshonkwe was standing in Pepperbush Street, Extension 32, talking to a friend, when the occupants of two vehicles - a VW Golf and Quantum minibus - started arguing and shooting at each other.
Police spokesperson, Col. Priscilla Naidu, said that Tshonkwe ran to her house but was hit by a stray bullet where after she collapsed inside her home and died.
"She sustained a gunshot wound to the right shoulder blade. The suspects are unknown at this stage and police are on the hunt for the vehicles," Naidu said.
A case of murder is under investigation.
