With a focus on health and wellness the Retreat Health Centre held an open day filled with basic health screenings, entertainment and random spot prizes on Friday 27 October.

With free screenings for diabetes, eye examination and information desks on display around 200 residents showed up to take advantage of the opportunity.

Kurt Petersen, health information clerk at Retreat Health Centre, said the purpose of the event was to showcase the clinic’s services to the community.

“We are informing residents of the services we render at the facility. We also have an entertainment aspect that has the crowd going but with the fundamental aspect and focus being health and wellness.”

He said the event, the first of many, aims to strengthen ties and enhance the services on offer.

“We have a lot of external partners who joined us on site and we are thankful they have been a part of this journey for the past few months. We are also looking to this event being a springboard for the next one to come, in terms of strengthening our ties with these entities and in the same breath making sure that we enhance the services delivered at our facility.”

The Retreat Health Centre held an open day on Friday 27 October.

Ward 68 councillor Marita Petersen, who attended the event, said it was important to send out the message to take responsibility for your health.

“The wellness of the community is so important and the community needs to take responsibility for their health and wellness.

“The message is also to those who need to for example collect chronic medicine, to let them know we are here and the clinic is open to assist.” She added the event staff at the Retreat Health Centre should be commended for their hard work.

“This is the first event of its sort, and the vibe is relaxed and positive, I appreciate the staff at Retreat clinic, they do amazing work and work very hard.”
