A talented 11-year-old goalkeeper from Retreat has been chosen to participate in a soccer clinic in Germany, later this year.
Abdul Muhaymin Mabara has been playing soccer since the age of four and according to his mom, Gouwha Mabara, every day revolves around soccer for the young goalkeeper.
Abdul is turning 11 today (21 February) and attends Square Hill Primary School.
He started soccer at the age of four and was always an ‘in-field’ player for Blue Bells Football Club.
However, at Super 7s tournament, they needed a goalkeeper and he volunteered. Since then, he has been playing as a goalkeeper.”
He often talks about being a goalkeeper for Manchester United, his mom chuckles.
“Everything is about soccer for him and he is also academically doing well. If he is not playing soccer he is playing games and also enjoys spending time with his grandmother.
“He is such a compassionate child, always asking his granny whether he can make her tea.”
As part of the continued holistic development of the Hellenic Football Club players, a squad of 28 players aged from eight to 12 was invited to a nine-day tour in Freiburg, Germany.
The tour will include training sessions and matches with highly qualified german coaches.
The soccer clinic, which is scheduled for September this year, will include education and cultural site visits.
The family has since started a back-a-buddy campaign to help him reach his dream.
“We are a sports family and I know what an opportunity like this means, especially for a goalkeeper.
“Therefore as a family, we are doing fundraisers by selling food but as this opportunity is costly we need more support with donations, any amount no matter how small would be appreciated.”
