A body found inside a burnt-down bungalow on an erf in Palomino Street, Jagtershof in Kuils River in February has been identified as that of a teenager who had gone missing in Gugulethu.

A spokesperson for Kuils River police, WO Liesel Beukes, said police can confirm an inquest docket was registered on Sunday 18 February.

Beukes said the body found was burnt beyond recognition.

The docket was changed to murder after the deceased was identified by a DNA comparison at Tygerberg Mortuary as 17-year-old Ongeziwe Kamlana.

News24 reported earlier that the Fezeka Secondary matric learner was last seen by her mother when she returned from extra classes at school on Saturday 17 February, around 16:00.

According to her mother Ongeziwe changed her clothes and left the house again without telling her mother where she was going.

Beukes said a missing person’s report was registered in Gugulethu on 20 February. 

A 28-year-old man was arrested on Sunday 3 March and appeared in the Blue Downs Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday the 5th.
