Kraaifontein police have issued a stern warning to the community about a gang of thugs going around people’s homes pretending to be municipal workers.
According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Louise Strydom the gang of four men, two coloured and two African, wear jackets and reflector jackets while carrying fake City of Cape Town ID badges. “They gain access to victims’ homes by claiming to inspect water meters, electricity plug points and electricity boxes,” she warned.

At least seven cases, of which two are house robberies and five thefts, were reported in the Kraaifontein area in recent months.
“The police are very concerned about this,” Strydom said. “Under no circumstances must you allow these men into your homes to do their so-called inspections. If they do visit your home please contact the Kraaifontein detective branch on 021 980 5560 or the SAPS 10111 emergency number immediately. If possible, please take a photo or record the alleged criminals for investigative purposes.”
