The Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in Kariega is searching for the mother who abandoned her little girl during the early hours of Sunday.
“It is alleged that at about 01:00, the woman left the child with some vagrants who were sleeping behind the Van Vuuren garage in Caledon Street, Kariega. The child who is about 4 or 5 years old was brought to the police station after the mother failed to fetch her. The woman is not known to any of the vagrants,” said police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu.
The child does not have any information about her residence, only that she is known as Kayla Jacobs.
Police are investigating a case of child abandonment and are appealing to anyone who can assist in tracing the mother or family of the child to contact D/Capt Sone Van Dyk on 083 234 8126 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or the nearest police station. All information is confidential, and callers may remain anonymous.
