Chris Claassens of Tom Burke writes I heard a fluttering sound in my garden and found a Burchell’s coucal hanging from a palm tree.
When I got closer, I heard a hissing sound and saw a yellow head among the leaves. I first thought a snake had attacked the bird, but when I took a better look, I realised it was a chameleon!
I think the coucal was looking for food in the palm tree and the chameleon bit it in self-defence. The coucal did eventually wrench itself free and fly off.
