The Xitsonga spelling debacle on the new South African notes, changed by PanSALB who doubled down on the correct spelling of words, continues to anger Mbhazima Shilowa.
In his 1916 classic, Native Life in South Africa, republished in 2007, Sol Plaatje wrote: "Awaking on Friday morning, 20 June 1913, the South African Native found himself, not actually a slave, but a pariah in the land of his birth."
This is the situation I find myself in with the Xitsonga language, following PanSALB's (Pan South African Language Board) decision to change the spelling and pronunciation of certain Xitsonga words.
