MTN is moving fast to ensure users are at the forefront of innovation and change. The recent spectrum auction in SA accelerated moves towards the adoption of 5G and new applications such as internet of things (IoT), Cloud gaming, and augmented reality experiences designed to connect virtually everyone and everything together including machines, objects, and devices. MTN is therefore rolling out 5G experiential zones in major shopping centres to showcase the benefits of 5G and enable our customers to experience the new world of 5G gaming, VR, smart home and motion tracking, among many others.

With innovation and enhanced access to the benefits of the digital world at the core of MTN's Ambition 2025 strategy, the company is making major strides to ensure more users benefit from the immense advantaged of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

These developments form part of MTN's ongoing investment towards the delivery of 5G as an enabler of innovation to benefit users and businesses across SA, while closing gaps to digital access in communities.

"Thanks to its greater bandwidth and higher download speeds, 5G is a gamechanger and we are upping our investment into this area, in tandem with our broader infrastructure modernisation drive and investment to connect the unconnected across SA," says Mapula Bodibe, Chief Consumer Officer at MTN South Africa.

In a key move to bring this world of opportunity closer to the end user, MTN has just launched a dedicated 5G kiosk at its Sandton store to showcase the benefits of 5G through VR Gaming, 6D motion tracking, 8K VR experience and show how these experiences all come together in a smart home.

Huawei South Africa, which has been at the forefront of deploying 5G in SA, has partnered with us to launch the 5G experiential zones.

In a nutshell, 5G wireless technology will deliver higher multi-Gbps peak data speeds, ultra-low latency, more reliability, massive network capacity, increased availability, and a more uniform user experience to more users. Higher performance and improved efficiency will empower new user experiences and enable MTN's customers and partners to connect seamlessly to new industries and experiences.

"These cutting edge developments are shaking up the world of technology and opening the door to significant opportunities for everyone in the digital economy. There are myriad benefits on our doorstep and MTN intends to ensure its users are at the forefront of this change. For instance, economies will see more growth and jobs as a result, which is going to be crucial as we recover from the effects of Covid-19 and embrace the benefits of the Fourth Industrial Revolution," says Bodibe.

She adds that 5G will unlock the full capabilities of next generation services such as virtual and augmented reality, ultra-high-definition video streaming, artificial intelligence, robotics, automated cars, and the Internet of Things. 5G will not only enhance the basic connectivity needs of communities in South Africa but will also deliver an experience that is up to 100 times faster than 4G, creating never-before-seen opportunities for MTN's customers.

At the 5G experiential zones, Huawei South Africa will provide innovative solutions and professional services to support MTN to achieve its "5G One Step Ahead" success in South Africa.

"4G has changed life, 5G will change society. We are happy to be a part of this key initiative towards that journey. MTN has built the best network and will continue to build the best-experience 5G network for people's daily life in South Africa," says Huawei South Africa.

"As 5G-capable devices continue to grow, it makes sense to have dedicated 5G experiential zones in our stores. This is just the beginning as we continue to stay on the pulse of cutting-edge digital developments to ensure South Africa is not left behind and all South Africans can enjoy the benefits of the modern, connected world," concludes Bodibe
