  • Five of the seven men accused of the murder of rapper Kiernan "AKA" Forbes appeared in court on Wednesday.
  • The Durban Magistrate's Court heard that cellphone records had been used to place some of the accused close to the murder scene.
  • A fourth accused had been linked to the scene through a card transaction.

Cellphone records of some of those accused of the murders of celebrated rapper Kiernan "AKA" Forbes and his friend, businessman Tebello "Tibz" Motsoane, in February 2023, have placed them close to the murder scene.

Lindokuhle Thabani Mkhwanazi, 30; Lindani Ndimande, 35; Siyanda Myeza, 21; Mziwethemba Gwabeni, 36; and Lindokuhle Ndimande, 29, appeared in the Durban Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

During the bail application hearing, the court heard that cellphone records had placed Mkhwanazi, Lindani Ndimande and Gwabeni close to the crime scene around the time of the murders.

The court also heard that CCTV footage had shown two shooters firing at Forbes and Motsoane only moments after the two friends had left a Durban restaurant and hugged each other.

Footage has also shown that a vehicle had been stationed outside the restaurant as a spotter, and that AKA and his entourage had been followed to the Wish restaurant. A third vehicle, believed to be carrying the shooters, pulled up while the men were dining.

A spotter was placed in the restaurant on the night AKA was murdered, the court was told. The restaurant staff said he was not a regular patron, and that he purchased a meal with a Standard Bank card. Bank records showed that the card belonged to Lindokuhle Ndimande.

The matter is ongoing.
