This week, Humza Yousaf is due to become the first minister of Scotland, which will make for several firsts.

His selection by the Scottish National Party (SNP) makes him the youngest leader of a modern Scotland, as well as its first Muslim leader.

His ethnic background too makes him a first for Scotland - though less notably so than might have been the case had Rishi Sunak not been the UK's first Hindu prime minister, and the second from a minority ethnic group (after Benjamin Disraeli).
