The Western Cape government plans to ask the National Disaster Management Centre for a disaster classification following the devastating storm that lashed the province.
On Wednesday, Premier Alan Winde said response efforts in the Western Cape had shifted to humanitarian work, which included identifying people who had lost their shelters and access to basic amenities during the storm.
Winde added that municipalities would now start with damage assessments, with the support of the Provincial Disaster Management Centre and relevant government departments.
