  • Cape Town singer Craig Lucas was robbed at gunpoint on Tuesday.
  • He said he begged the gunmen to not shoot him.
  • Police, who are investigating, said that no one has been arrested yet.

Singer and songwriter Craig Lucas was robbed at gunpoint after being ambushed while waiting for help with a flat tyre in Poplar Avenue, Thornton, Cape Town, on Tuesday.

Sharing his ordeal with his more than 40 000 Instagram followers, the 30-year-old musician detailed how he begged the gunmen not to shoot him.

"I got a flat [tyre]. While I was trying to get it sorted, a car pulled up in front of me. I thought they were coming to help. Instead, they robbed me. They had a gun, and the one guy told the other to shoot me as they were making off.

"I begged him not to shoot me, and thank God he didn't," said Lucas.

Lucas, originally from Elsies River, said the gunmen made off with his cellphone and managed to change the password of his Apple ID and Gmail account.

Lucas said in his post:

I can't locate the phone or erase it until I am able to access my account. The phone was unlocked when they took it, so they have access to it. If anyone messages you asking for anything, please assume it isn't me for now.

He added that he was trying to recover his cellphone number and regain access to his accounts, but that it would take between 24 and 48 hours.

News24 reached out to Lucas's mother, but she was too traumatised to speak to the media.

Western Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said Pinelands police were investigating a robbery case.

"According to reports, the victim had a flat tyre, and while waiting for assistance, a vehicle stopped next to him, and the occupants alighted the vehicle and robbed him. The suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested," said Twigg.

Police said anyone with any information about this incident can contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.

Meanwhile, fellow local celebrities have expressed their shock at the criminality against one of their own.

Comedian Marc Lottering said, "F****t Craig, I'm so sorry you went through that."

Singer Lady Zamar said, "No one deserves to be treated with such little regard… so sorry, Craig."
