Heavy rainfall in parts of KwaZulu-Natal left five people dead in Margate on the south coast.
The spokesperson for the Ugu Municipality, France Zama, said more details on the deaths would be provided once it had consolidated information from the affected areas.
"Skhumbuzo Mqadi [the mayor] has today led a delegation of multi-disciplinary teams of technocrats to visit areas of Margate which were affected by the heavy downpours last night," said Zama.
