A MyCiTi bus went up in flames on the N2 highway in Cape Town on Thursday morning.
City of Cape Town spokesperson Maxine Bezuidenhout confirmed that a bus was alight on the N2 inbound before Borcherds Quarry Road, but said the details were still sketchy.
She added that the right lane was closed to traffic, leading to significant congestion.
The bus was carrying passengers but there were no injuries, Bezuidenhout added.
The cause of the fire had not been established by the time of publication, but Bezuidenhout said there was no protest action in the area.

Mayco member for urban mobility Rob Quintas said: "We are awaiting an interim report on the cause of the burnt-out bus on the N2 this morning."
"The area manager is struggling to get to the scene to speak to the driver. We have no details at this time and will update as soon as we receive the information."
