Emergency rooms across the Western Cape saw an increase in trauma cases over the Easter long weekend.
Almost a third of all the cases that presented at monitored emergency rooms were trauma-related – an increase on the quarter recorded during last year's Easter period.
According to the Western Cape health department's Hospital and Emergency Centre Tracking Information System (Hectis), more than 16 100 patients were treated over the long weekend. Of those, 5 222 (32%) were trauma cases.
