A suspected cash-in-transit robber was found trapped inside a bombed-out armoured vehicle in the Eastern Cape hours after it had come under attack.
Provincial Hawks spokesperson Warrant Officer Ndiphiwe Mhlakuvana said Simlindile Sibonele Mfecane, 39, was arrested after the G4S vehicle was ambushed while transporting money from Mthatha to ATMs in Lusikisiki and Port St Johns.
"Reports indicated that while the G4S truck was passing Libode, a white Toyota double-cab bakkie overtook the cash truck at high speed. After approximately a kilometre, the bakkie came in front of the cash truck and rammed it, but the attempt failed, and the bakkie was damaged and came to a halt next to the cash truck," he said.
