Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed that they plan to give veteran goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune a grand sendoff after two and a half decades of service to the Glamour Boys.

Khune, 36, joined Amakhosi as a teenager back in 1999 and as he famously shared, he was rejected, not once - but twice, by the club.

His perseverance though - and a change of position - would lead to 25 years of service to the club, in which he endeared himself to not only Chiefs fans - but fans across South Africa.

Khune's Chiefs stint, for the most part, has been trophy laden with five major trophies with Amakhosi and a host of individual awards, though the last nine years have been without silverware for the Ventersdorp native.

At the start of the 2023/24 season Chiefs confirmed that Khune's current contract would be his last as a player, as the club prepare something in their structures beyond the field of play for their longest-serving member of the current squad.

It remains to be seen though whether Khune, who turns 37 next month, is eager to call it quits having constantly stated his desire to follow in the footsteps of Gianluigi Buffon and play beyond the age of 40.

Whatever happens, indications are that Saturday's home match against Polokwane City could be Khune's final one in a Chiefs shirt, with the club confirming via their official website that they plan to give 'Mzansi's Finest' a grand sendoff at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
