Glam it up!

accreditation
As the end of the year is fast approaching, so are the up-and-coming parties, office get-togethers, functions and weddings. Before you go into a flat panic, run off to the stores and spend a lot of money on a dress you will never wear again, take a look at these practical tips on how to create a look that works for your body shape, saves you money and makes you feel fabulously glamorous this season.

Most of us are carefully considering how we spend our money this year, so here are some tips on which items to save on and which are worth the splurge.

Worth the splurge:
There are a few basic items that make it much easier to create your glamour look.  To make the items worth the spend, make sure you can wear them again and again by mixing and matching for a dressed up or a go-casual look.

Light coloured trousers:  The most important thing to consider when looking for trousers is the fit.  If the fit and the fabric are right, you don't have to be fearful of the light colour.  Light coloured trousers may be white, taupe, ivory, cream or soft and muted shades of gold or silver.  Soft and flowing trousers are all the rage at the moment.  Most body shapes can get away with a lovely wide-leg soft trouser that drapes in all the right places.  The key is a good fitted waistband and wearing the right underwear i.e. the seamless boy leg panty is ideal as it gives sufficient hold and shows no seams (available at various retailers).  These trousers will be a great addition to your wardrobe as you can wear them with a beautiful silky blouse for glamour or just a bright coloured tee and beaded sandals for a more casual look.

Skirt:  A skirt is a fabulous basic for any wardrobe as it helps you go from casual to glam in a second.  Team your best shape skirt with a satin blouse and a pair of metallic heels for a special function instead of buying a dress you will never wear again.  To dress your skirt down, swap your heels for pretty flats and satin for cotton.  For tips on finding your best skirt shape, read my article "Skirting the issue".

Silky blouse:  Select a blouse that will glam up your existing wardrobe.  You want something with a little detail, like beading, or a shimmer fabric such as satin or silk.  This will dress up your existing trousers and skirts so that you will be ready for any occasion without the panic.  Remember that if your trousers fit well, it will give you more flexibility when it comes to selecting your blouses.

Ways to save:
Accessories are a great way to glam up your existing wardrobe without breaking the bank.  Many stores are bringing out affordable collections of shoes, printed scarves and jewellery that make it easy to fashion up and glam up your wardrobe no matter what your body shape or budget.  Here are just a few ideas:

Shoes:  Oh don't we just love a new pair of shoes!  Well they don't have to cost the earth.  There are many varieties of heels and flats out there with beaded detail or in glamorous gold and silver that can glam up your party or beach outfit.  Slap a little colour on to your toenails and show off those pretty feet.

Ribbon detail:  Ribbon detail can add a touch of colour and femininity to any outfit.  Select a ribbon in your favourite colour and "belt" your old favourite top for a fresh new look.  If belting doesn't work for you, you can wear a ribbon as a headband to bring some colour and fun into your look.

Iron-on diamante:  That's right.  Now you can create your own diamante detail.  They come with an easy-to-apply iron-on backing.  You can create your own little design or just decorate the neckline of your favourite tee.

Printed scarves:  This is a great way to add some colour or interest to your look.  Wear a printed scarf with a simple blouse and change your look from simple to wow whenever you choose.

Adding a touch of glamour to your existing wardrobe need not cost you a fortune.  Get creative and find new ways of dressing up and having fun no matter what the occasion.
