Sizzling hot
Jumpsuits
Right now, jumpsuits are red hot, but you've got to be very careful
as to how you wear them. Here are the rules: ensure it's a solid
colour. (You wouldn't wear a head-to-toe patterned two-piece, would
you? You'd end up looking like you'd thrown on pyjamas!) Wear it with
heels to elongate your figure and pick a fabric that lightly skims your
figure – too baggy and you'll look like a workman, too tight and get
mistaken for an ABBA tribute band member. Done right, it can look
seriously classy.
Trilbies
The coolest, hippest way to fend off summer sun? (Not to mention
hide a bad hair day from hell...) A cutesy little trilby! You'll find
loads of straw one's in Woolies right now. They're great for protecting
your hair and face on the beach or a few lazy sundowners with friends.
Floral dresses
Big, bold floral prints in retro-styles are all the rage right now. (Think Dita von Teese and Katy Perry for inspirasie).
Wear them nipped in with a belt or a lightweight summer cardi. If you
try anything on and think you're looking a little too Bree from
'Wisteria Lane', know that you're getting it right.
Light summer scarves
Spring is in the air, but we can still expect the odd day a la miz.
To combat any post-winter chill, invest in a breezy, 'summer scarf'.
The shops are full of them – gorgeous, lightweight, semi-transparent
and pretty, they look great worn draped over a t-shirt with a pair of
chandelier earrings.
Icy cold
Raptor nails
A scary little trend, we've noticed celebs like Rihanna and Kourtney Kardashian
flashing falsies filed down to razor sharp, raptor-like points. Perhaps
this would work in your favour if you live in a high crime area and
reckon 'man-slashing', Krueger-esque mitts could offer up some 'extra
protection'. If not, we suggest you give this nasty look a skip.
¾ tights – yawn
Sure, it's starting to warm up, but don't for a second think that
you can whip out last year's trusty ¾'s and start wearing them under
skirts or shorts. Yes, you're sure to see lots of gals running around
doing just that. But there are also a huge amount of people who still
think that it's okay to wear crocs. And that doesn't make it right.
Big ass bags
Huge, structured bags were great for winter and the patent ones in
particular were a fab way to snazz up any outfit. Now, however, as
summer rolls around, you're going to need something a little more
relaxed-looking – like a satchel. Trust us, leather (or leather-look)
satchels worn across the body with a nice, long strap are going to be
big, big news.
Last season's lace
There are some chain stores out there that would have you believe
wearing lace in the day is still big news. Thing is, it's not. It's now
all about crochet. So save your lacy lovelies for the bedroom and start
looking around for cute, summery knits. Lace is officially dun-zo...
