Struggle to get you foundation-application on point? It can be tricky, but once you have mastered the tips set out below, you will never go back to your old ways...
Trick #1:
Find the perfect colour for your unique skintone.
Keep in mind that the shade will change according to the season. Make-up artists often advise that you blend one or two different foundations to achieve the correct shade for your unique skintone.
At the moment I am using both CHANEL's CC cream, which is a bit heavier in its consistency and darker in colour than a BB cream, but lighter than a proper foundation, with a super light BB cream. The results are perfect for my fair skin as the CC cream is a bit dark for my fair skin during winter, and the BB cream is too light. I also really love Clarins' Everlasting Foundation - well worth a try!

Trick #2:
Always prep the skin.
Always use a good moisturiser before applying your foundation, BB or CC cream. Glamour.com notes the importance of waiting a few minutes after moisturising, before applying foundation - this is important, as the moisturiser takes a few minutes to sink in to your skin. You can also apply a primer, like GOSH's Primer Plus, before applying your foundation - but primer is normally reserved for days when you need your make-up to last and last.
Trick #3:
Always use a brush instead of a sponge says Daily Makeover.
It is important to used a brush with a domed head and to buff the product into the skin with light, circular motions. Using a brush will actually stretch your foundation as you apply less at a time - with a sponge one often adds too much.
Trick #4:
Apply foundation everywhere - even the ears!
Blend, blend, blend some more! Then make sure to apply foundation to your neck as well as to your décolletage. Daily Makeover even says that one should apply foundation to your ears. The fair-skinned especially need to be weary of applying foundation all over as they are more prone to experience redness in the ears - this needs to be evened out.
Also don't forget the eyelids and the lips. We are not saying that you should apply tons of foundation to these areas, just make sure it has some coverage.
Trick #5:
Highlight before applying full foundation.
Use tools like Elizabeth Arden's Flawless Finish Correcting and Highlighting Perfector before applying your foundation, says Daily Makeover.
Some like to apply this after the foundation has been applied and then they blend. Yet, if you use this before applying foundation it will look like a deeper glow coming from within.
Trick #6:
Always finish the look off with some powder.
Luminous or translucent powder will make your skin look less shiny and will help to reflect some of that much needed light, says Glamour.com. Use Catrice's Prime & Fine powder for great results.
