Top 5 Spring trends!

accreditation
It’s so exciting to see how the world of fashion has changed in the last few years.  When I was in design school there were just a handful of trends to choose from and if they didn’t suit you… too bad.

These days, there are so many different trends to choose from that it can be a little overwhelming.  With this in mind, I have chosen my top five favourite trends to share with you and give you some fabulous tips on how to translate them into wearable fashion that best suits you.

Sheer nudes
Delicate tones ranging from soft blush pinks to creamy beiges, in fluid shapes and relaxed tailoring with lots of draping in soft and sheer fabrics.

How to wear:  Select the right nude tone for your complexion to ensure you don’t look washed out and pale.  A tone too close to your natural complexion is likely to do that.  Rather select a tone a few shades lighter or darker than your skin colour.  Carefully select draping styles and fabrics so they don’t cling to the parts you don’t want to emphasise. A good combination is a pair of tailored trousers with soft flowing chiffon blouse.  Also select your draping styles carefully to best suit your body shape. For example layered ruffles on a small bust will work wonders to add wanted volume, but ruffles around generous hips will just make them look bigger.

Khaki
It’s the newest, freshest neutral for the season, worn with elegant tailoring and military finishes. Pockets, buckles and button details are signatures of this look.

How to wear:  This look is all about the detail, so be careful which details you choose.  If you have generous hips and thighs, wearing cargo trousers with lots of pockets is just going to make you look bigger than you are.  Rather select a pair of shoes or a handbag that makes the statement or simply make use of the colour as a neutral and keep the lines clean and simple.

Digital prints
Dazzling and vibrant best describes this look, often worn in bold and bright printed dresses in eye-popping colours.

How to wear: Vibrant prints work best in clean, simple lines.  These can be worn in small amounts or as a statement dress.  If you wear it in a dress, let the dress speak for itself and keep your hair, make-up and accessories simple and understated so that you don’t overdo it.

Peekaboo
Corsetry, satin trim, lace and anything pretty – get ready to wear it on the outside.  Super feminine lingerie inspired pieces are now the order of the day, not just the night.

How to wear: Determine where and when to wear this trend.  For daywear, incorporate small details like a lace top under a jacket or soft chiffon blouses.  For the more daring moments and occasions, wear a lace gele’ over a corset or cami.

Vermilion
Red is the statement colour of the season, in every shade from coral to bright true red.

How to wear:  Find your best colour red.  Everyone has a shade of red they can wear.  To make this look work, pair with neutral accessories, simple makeup and red lips.  If you are intrigued by red, but scared to wear it boldly, wear it in a perfect shade of lipstick or as an accessory.  Either way, find a way to wear red this season.

As I always say, fashion is meant to be a tool to inspire you to create your own individual look to best suit your style, body shape and personality.  I hope this serves as inspiration for you to do just that.
