Light at the end of the tunnel: Don’t give up on yourself

There are things I remember about my life with such clarity I sometimes frighten myself.

Sometimes I have perfect memory retrieval and then there are days where I struggle to remember what I ate for dinner last night, or where I put the parking ticket.

The things I remember, the moments that sweep over me in such clarity that I feel as though I am reliving the moment both good and bad and are almost always triggered by something very simple.

Don’t ask me what pre-empted this weeks topic, maybe it's the image of the doodling or drawing of adjoining lines which eventually resemble a maze- I believe life is like a maze.

One begins on a path with no plans or ideas; we go in on blind faith and hope. Life does not come with a handbook and eventually it's as though we are racing to beat a deadline. We find ourselves in a panic, grasping frantically for some kind of affirmation that we are doing things the right way.

Our paths are never just straight: they curve, collide and sometimes we hit dead ends.

Then there are disappointments in life which resemble roadblocks in the maze. There are times we have to backtrack and try another direction. Life is a series of unexpected twists and turns in the maze, reminders that you never know what awaits you when you take a walk in this maze we call life.

Sometimes we have those moments of apprehension and trepidation before we even take the turn. We try to keep an open mind as to what awaits us and wait for some kind of divine light to make us more secure that this was meant to be.

We say to ourselves that this turn was written out for us.  We find ourselves standing in the middle of dozens intersecting paths, shaking our fists skyward and shouting, “which way now?”

There are all sorts of opportunities, different paths appear, and at times we wonder where we will end up if we take this path. We find ourselves so deep in the path before it dawns upon us that it might have been a mistake to take this route. Is it really a mistake or is this a lesson?

You even stand there, scratching your head wondering if this is really the maze which was meant for me, "Who designed this puzzle?!"

Will I be stuck in this maze until I die?

You might even wonder if the maze is a test to see who will discover the hidden secrets and emerge victorious in conquering it.

I believe that we are untold stories, waiting to get out of the maze. Being in the maze teaches us lessons and gives us experience, once we find our way out of the maze we are more equipped to make better decisions and choices.

Life is about dead ends and roadblocks, and the maze teaches us to go back and re-look life with a different perspective.

When we choose what is right and follow through with it, we learn more about ourselves and our surroundings: we learn how to survive. The essence of the maze is that we discover what’s hidden inside each one of us. We learn about a higher power whilst in this maze; we learn to listen to that inner voice.

The roadblock or the detour is designed to strengthen our faith and it keeps us going at full force even when the maze has battered us black and blue.

At the end of it all, the maze teaches us something. After we have conquered it we realize that we are more resilient, adaptable and determined to be happy.

Happiness is what waits at the end of our maze, we are left amazed at how much stronger we really are!
