How to make a mosaic vase

You will need
ceramic vase
pencil
mirror tiles
tile pliers
wood glue
turquoise glass pebbles
dark blue Gold Vein river glass tiles
light blue Gold Vein river glass tiles
red glass tiles
black tile grout
old plastic container
sponge
soft cloth

To make
:
1. Draw large swirls on the outside of the vase using a pencil.

2. Cut the mirror tiles into thin rectangular shapes using tile pliers. We used mirror tiles measuring 25 x 25mm and cut each tile into four pieces to get the required shape.

3. Stick the mirror tiles onto the swirls using wood glue. Finish each swirl with a glass pebble.

4. Peel the river glass tiles off their mesh backing or remove the backing by soaking the tiles in hot water. 5. Cut the dark blue tiles in half and place them along the top and bottom rims of the vase. You may have to cut a few pieces into triangular shapes to fit around the area covered in mirror tiles.

6. Cut more dark blue tiles and place them around the mirror tiles that have been glued onto the swirl shape. Follow the curved shaped of the mirror tiles and remember to leave a gap as wide as a matchstick to fill in with grout later.

7. Once the dark blue strip around the mirror tiles is complete, cut each light blue tile into four pieces and randomly place them outside the dark blue ones, following the curves of the swirl shapes.

8. Fill any remaining gaps with river glass tiles cut into random shapes and a few red glass tiles, then leave the vase to dry for at least a day.

9. Mix black grout in an old plastic container. Follow the instructions on the packaging to get a consistency that resembles toothpaste, then let the grout stand for five minutes before stirring it again and applying it to the vase.

10
. Smear the grout over the entire vase and use a damp sponge to wipe off any excess. You may have to wipe the vase down a few times. Rinse the sponge every time, and allow the vase to dry before wiping it down again.

11. Leave the vase to dry for at least six hours, then use a soft, dry cloth to polish the tiles.
