The style and glam on Pose is a work of art. Helping create the FX hit's Emmy-nominated makeup moments is Deja Smith.
"The one thing I absolutely loved about working on Pose was the fact that I got to be amongst so much of the LGBTQIA community of colour and as a Black trans woman, it meant the world to me to be able to give back in that way", says Deja.
She shares her top five favourite looks from the season:
1. Candy Ferocity - Sweet Refrain
It was an incredible show-stopping performance look so I used one of 'Mother' Pat McGrath's eyeshadow palettes, specifically Mothership V eyeshadow palette, on her eyes, her lips and her cheeks to enhance the stage-worthy look of her makeup. I also utilised a Black and Trans-owned named BatMe! for these awesome, oversized eyelashes. Perfect!
2. Pray Tell - Dream Sequence
My second favourite look would be Pray Tell's Dream Sequence look from episode six. I needed to give him a stark contrast between when he was in the hospital bed experiencing AZT poisoning so I used Make Up For Ever’s HD foundation and his skin was a dream.
3. Veronica Ferocity
It was my first time getting to do her makeup for a film and TV production, which she is now portraying her stage persona. I wanted to give her a stark contrast and more of a period look. I used some Juvia’s Place eyeshadows to create this bold, pop eyeshadow look.
4. Silhouette Wintour - Eros Ball
My fourth favourite look was Silhouette Wintour's Eros Ball look, when the entire house was done in silver leaf. I am an artsy-craftsy girl, so the chance to play with silver leaf? Perfect.
5. Black and White Old Hollywood
Overall the effect was insane ... we did use some MAC Chromacake in only black and white to the high highlights and contours hues of a black and white silver screen.
