Cover up your wobbly bits this summer

Clever summer cover-ups

The summer heat makes us want to peel off the layers…or does it.  If you often struggle with dressing for comfort whilst keeping the “less loved bits” covered.  Here are some great tips to keeping fabulously cool without feeling exposed:

If you want to cover up your upper arms:

Sleeve lengths:  ¾ or short sleeve ending just above the elbow are fantastic for this.  Select blouses and tops with sleeves that don’t fit too tightly around your upper arm.  If you have a generous bust, be careful of very full sleeves, as they will make your upper arms look like an extension of your bust line.

Bell sleeves in sheer fabrics:  Bell sleeves work wonders to de-emphasise wide upper arms.  Full length or ¾ length bell sleeves in a sheer fabric will work to keep you cool.

Cami cover-ups:  Most women have many different colour camis but will never wear them out in public.  Invest in a shrug top or lightweight gele’ to wear over your cami.  This will cover your upper arms, keep you cool and help you make use of that unused cami collection.

If you want to cover up your love handles:

Get the proportions right:  Avoid wearing trousers that are too low cut and push the love handles up and out over the waistband.  Rather select trousers with a wide waistband that sits just below your belly button.  Keep the style plain without pockets, pleats and details and then wear tops that just barely cover the widest part of your tummy.  If you wear your tops too long, you will make your tummy look bigger than it is.  If you get the trousers right, you will find it easier to find tops that flatter your shape.

How to wear thin clingy fabrics:  Summer collections are usually filled with tops made of thin clingy fabrics.  Wear a fitted cotton cami underneath your clingy top.  This helps to smooth everything out.  Wear clingy fabrics in a print.  You will be amazed how a print in the right shape and size top can do wonders to disguise what’s fabric and what’s flesh.  Give it a try and see what I mean.

If you want a “cover up” to wear over your cozzie:

A sarong:  Look out for a beautiful sarong to use as an elegant cover-up to wear over your swimsuit.  If you have big hips, avoid tying your sarong at the hip, rather tie it in the front.  If you want to hide your tummy, tie it to the side, rouging it around your tummy.

Kaftans:  Shapeless kaftans can make a woman look like a bag.  Either look for one with a bit of shape or a sheer fabric that will still show your shape.  If it is in a print this could work well to show your basic shape, but disguise the fleshy bits.

The golden rule to selecting a successful cover up is to dress your entire body instead of dressing just to cover up the parts you dislike.

Decide this summer to dress for your shape, focus your attention on the parts you love, accept the parts you don’t and know that time is too precious to waste on focusing on the less than perfect.
