How to wear neutrals

Women often think of black, black and more black when it comes to neutrals.  In reality there is a wide range of neutrals to choose from like chocolate brown, mocha, taupe, camel, olive green, white, silver grey, navy, charcoal, ivory etc.

If there is such a wide range of neutrals to choose from, how do you determine which neutrals suit you best?

1.    Determine which neutrals mix well with your best complimentary colours.

Take a look in your existing wardrobe.  Which colours do you wear and look best in?  Then aim to select neutrals that work well with these colours to get the most out of your wardrobe. For example:

• If your best complementary colours are burnt orange, acid green and teal, these colours will mix well with chocolate brown, taupe, ivory and olive green.

• If your best complementary colours are light pink, deep red and purple, these colours will mix well with silver grey, charcoal, navy and white.

2.    Some neutrals will suit you better than others.

It’s about determining which work best for you.   If black makes you look paler than usual, then try chocolate brown.  If camel makes your complexion look yellow, then try ivory instead.  Be prepared to try a variety of shades till you find the ones that suit you best.
